ALBION, Mich. - The Albion College women's basketball team became another victim of the undefeated and nationally-ranked Calvin College Knights Wednesday night. Calvin gave Albion its first home loss of the year by a final score of 75-44.

"Nobody's beat them," Albion Head Coach Doreen Carden said about the 18-0 Calvin women. "We knew it would be a really tough game coming in, and we just wanted to play loose and improve on our last performance against them."

The high-pressure Calvin defense forced Albion into 23 turnovers while holding them to just 28 percent shooting from the field.

"They really speed you up," Carden said. "We did a better job breaking the press than last time around, but we still need to clean some things up."

Catie Neary stood out for the Britons putting together an impressive performance on the night. The guard from Brookston, Ind., scored 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting.

"She's definitely maturing," Carden said about the first-year player. "She isn't playing scared. She played really well tonight — now we just need her to play consistent."

Darian Payne also played well for Albion contributing 11 points while collecting eight rebounds and going a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line.

"It was hard to get the ball inside," said Carden. "Calvin just puts so much pressure on you — it was hard to get Darian the ball. But you can always count on her to find a way to get into the game. She's a huge asset."

The Britons take the court again Saturday when they host Alma College. Tip off is at 3 o'clock p.m.
