Austin, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team erased a seven-point deficit in the final four minutes and held on for a 64-61 victory over Concordia Texas Monday night in Austin. The Cru improves to 10-8 overall and 6-7 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The Tornados drop to 7-10 overall and 6-7 in the ASC on the year with the loss.

Concordia used a 10-3 run to break open a tie game and build a 59-52 lead over the Cru with 3:41 left to play. UMHB changed its defense and used two free throws from Kourtney Bevers, a Macy Moore lay-up and four straight points from Taylor Tucker to take a 60-59 lead with 1:48 remaining. Kia Love hit two free-throws to put the Tornados on top 61-60 with 1:32 to go. Bevers answered quickly with a lay-in at the other end to put UMHB on top 62-61 and Concordia missed a free throw and turned the ball over on its next two possessions. Destini Oakmon buried two free throws with 2.7 seconds left to make it a three-point game and a desperation three-pointer from the Tornados was off the mark at the final buzzer. Concordia led by as many as nine points in the first half, before UMHB's defensive pressure keyed an 18-7 run to give the Cru a 33-31 halftime lead.

Tucker led UMHB with 13 points and nine rebounds and she went over 1,000 points in her Cru career in the game. Alyssa Dean had 12 points, Bevers scored 11 and Mackenzie Coffey chipped in 10 points and nine rebounds off the bench. UMHB shot 36 percent from the field and was just 1-7 from three-point range, but the Cru hit 19-25 from the free throw line and out rebounded the Tornados 42-31 in the victory.

Isis Johnson had a game-high 17 points to lead Concordia. Camille Horman had 11 points and Emily Cullers scored 10 more off the bench for the Tornados. Concordia shot 43 percent from the field but was just 9-15 from the free throw line in the contest.  

The UMHB women will return to action with a 1:00 PM start at Louisiana College on Saturday in Pineville, Louisiana. The Cru will continue its road trip with games at East Texas Baptist and LeTourneau University next week.
