Washington Falls to Gettysburg’s Glass Attack

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Freshman Emily Gibbons' (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) posted a double-double and Gettysburg College tied a season high for rebounds in a 59-39 victory over Washington College in Centennial Conference women's basketball action inside Bream Gym Saturday afternoon. 

Gettysburg (11-5, 6-5 CC) put a halt to a five-game losing streak thanks to a 49-33 advantage on the glass. Gibbons paved the way with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while senior Jenna Swope (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) added a dozen tallies. 

The Bullets trailed for only about a minute in the contest when a three-point play by Brynne Brouse made it 9-8 at 11:33 in the first half. Back-to-back buckets by Gibbons put the hosts back in front to stay. 

Leading 26-19 at halftime, Gettysburg dialed it up in the second half. The Bullets grabbed 10 offensive rebounds, dished out nine assists on 12 field goals, and committed only four turnovers in the final period. 

A three-pointer by Swope 40 seconds into the second half pushed the lead to double-figures where it would stay for the remainder of the game. A jumper by Swope wrapped up a 20-2 run to start the period and pushed the lead to a game-high 25 (45-21) with 11:59 left. 

Gibbons reached double-figures for the fourth consecutive game and logged her third double-double of the season. The first-year finished 5-of-12 from the floor, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Swope finished 5-of-9 from the floor with a pair of threes. 

Freshman Annie Reilly (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) contributed eight points, five rebounds, and five assists, while sophomore Sara Graham (Pottstown, Pa./The Hill School) snagged eight boards. Senior Samantha Pagel (Harleysville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) scored eight points and grabbed four rebounds. 

Carley Kendall paced Washington (5-12, 1-9 CC) with 14 points. 

Gettysburg travels to Franklin & Marshall College on Tuesday, Jan. 27, at 6 p.m.
