Rams Hold Off St. Joe's; Remain Perfect in Skyline

Patchogue, N.Y. - Senior guard Nicole Lanteri (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) scored a game-high 21 points as the Farmingdale State women's basketball team earned a 58-51 conference victory at St. Joseph's on Wednesday night.

Leading 31-20 to start the second half, junior guard Andrea Desvignes (Deer Park, N.Y.) opened with a layup and 3-pointer to increase the Rams (8-8, 4-0) advantage to 36-20.

After Farmingdale State increased their lead to 43-26, St. Joseph's (4-12, 2-3) connected on back-to-back 3's to cut the deficit to 43-32 with 12:04 remaining.

The Golden Eagles used a Jackie Zizzo (Bethpage, N.Y.) 3-pointer to cut the Rams lead to 54-47 with 1:50 left on the clock. After two Marlaina Sherman (Miller Place, N.Y.) free-throws, four unanswered points by St. Joe's pulled the Golden Eagles within five, 56-51, with 51 seconds remaining. On Farmingdale State's next possession, Degsvignes was fouled and converted both free-throws at the line as the Rams earned the 58-51 road victory.

Lanteri scored her 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting, while Sherman had 13 points, six rebounds and a game-high four blocks. Desvignes added 12 points and five steals and junior forward Nailah Cherry (Roosevelt, N.Y.) grabbed a game-high eight boards in the win.

St. Joseph's was led by Zizzo's 13 points, while freshman forward Andrea Iavarone (Miller Place, N.Y.) tallied 11 points and six rebounds.

The Rams next will play host to Mount Saint Mary in a Skyline Conference game on Saturday, January 24th at 1:00 p.m.
