No. 14 Hope Women's Basketball Downs Trine 63-50

Maura McAfee's 18 points and season-high 15 rebounds helped the nationally ranked Hope College women's basketball team down visiting Trine 63-50 on Wednesday.

The Flying Dutch improved to 15-2 overall and 7-1 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play.

McAfee, a junior from Midland, Michigan (Midland HS), scored 14 points in the first half as Hope grabbed a 34-22 halftime lead.

The Flying Dutch closed the final 3 minutes, 46 seconds of the first half on an 11-2 run. Trine's Ashley Elliott made a jumper at the buzzer.

Trine (11-6 overall, 5-3 MIAA) never got closer than eight points during the second half.

Senior center Rebekah Llorens of Grayslake, Illinois (Grayslake Central HS), chipped in 13 points and nine rebounds for Hope.

The Flying Dutch entered the game ranked No. 1 in the USA Today NCAA Division III coaches poll and 14th by d3hoops.com.

Hope returns to action on Saturday, January 24, at Adrian. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m. for the opener in the second half of the MIAA schedule.
