Five Geneseo players scored in double figures. Allison McKenna and Kara Houppert each scored 16 points. Shannon McGinnis finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists and Dana Cohan added 11 points while playing the entire 45 minutes. The game was basically a "tale of two halves" as Cortland outscored Geneseo 34-18 in the first 20 minutes and the Knights outscored the Red Dragons 34-18 in the second half. Cortland shot 52 percent from the field in the first half but only 35 percent in the second and 4-of-10 in overtime. Geneseo hit only 21 percent of its first-half shots but made 43 percent from the field in the second half and 3-of-5 field goals in the extra session. The Knights also made 19-of-24 free throws – 8-of-9 in overtime – to Cortland's 4-of-9 foul shooting.

Geneseo led 2-0 just three seconds into the game, but did not lead again until McGinnis hit two free throws four seconds into overtime. Cortland led 34-15 with 2:01 left in the first half on a jumper by Dumas, who finished the opening period with 17 points. Geneseo whittled the Red Dragon lead to seven at 47-40 with 7:55 remaining on a Houppert 3-pointer, but Dumas nailed a trey with 7:03 left to put Cortland up by 10.

The Red Dragons still led by nine at 52-43 after a Lindsey Minor (Wheatley Heights/St. John the Baptist) jumper with 3:30 left. Katie Peterson started the Knights' final comeback with two free throws with 3:14 on the clock and McKenna made layups at the 2:44 and 2:07 marks to make it a 52-49 game.

McKenna then cut Cortland's lead to one with a layup with 1:10 left. Cortland missed a 3-pointer on its next trip down the floor and Dumas fouled out with 26 seconds remaining in regulation. McGinnis made the second of two free throws to tie the game.

Cortland held the ball for a potential final shot by Wolstenholme's foul-line jumper missed the mark with less than seven seconds left. Geneseo grabbed the rebound and raced downcourt but was unable to get a shot off.

Cortland led twice in overtime on two Chapko 3-pointers, the second with 3:39 left that put the Red Dragons up 58-56. Cohan, however, answered with a trey about 20 seconds later and Reinhardt sank a three with 2:33 left to give Geneseo a 62-58 lead.

Neither team scored again until McKenna made two of her six overtime free throws with 32 seconds left. Cortland got no closer than four the rest of the way.

Cortland returns to action on Saturday at Elmira in a non-league game at 4 p.m.
