Hageman's Career Night Leads Spartan Women to 77-65 Victory at Wooster

WOOSTER, Ohio – Freshman forward Kara Hageman (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) posted career bests of 13 points and eight rebounds to lead the Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team to a 77-65 victory at The College of Wooster on Wednesday evening at Timken Gymnasium.

The Spartans advance to 4-2 for the season, while the Fighting Scots fall to 1-4.

In addition to Hageman, junior post Laura Mummey (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) tallied 12 points, four rebounds, two blocked shots and two steals. Senior wing Brooke Orcutt (Morrison, Colo./Dakota Ridge) and sophomore guard Jessica McCoy (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) added nine points apiece. All nine of McCoy's markers came in the first half.

Lauren Hancher led Wooster with a game-high 21 points. Hannah Kister added 14.

Ahead 12-11 with 11:57 left in the first half, the Spartans went on a quick 9-0 run which culminated in a layup from senior forward Berit Eppard (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) at 10:07. Another 7-0 run late in the period put CWRU ahead 33-22 as Mummey scored a layup with 3:39 on the clock, and the half would eventually end with the Spartans on top, 44-35.

In the second, the Spartans led by as many 16 on two separate occasions, the second coming when a Mummey layup moved the score to 57-41 with 14:37 left to play. Overall, Mummey scored eight of her points in the second half.

For the game, CWRU held significant advantages in both points in the paint (44-26) and points off of turnovers (11-4).

The Spartans now return home to host the Big Red of Denison University on Saturday, December 6 at 1:00 p.m. in Horsburgh Gymnasium.
