Defense Leads Brooklyn Past Farmingdale State, 76-44

Farmingdale, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball team scored 40 points off of 32 Farmingdale State College turnovers to pace the Bulldogs to their 76-44 victory over the Rams on Friday evening.

With the win, BC improves to 10-5 overall on the season; while Farmingdale State drops to 6-8 overall on the year.

Freshman Chrissy Heyer had the best game of her career, scoring a game-high 22 points (16 first half points) off the bench on 7-for-10 shooting from the field, including going 6-for-9 from beyond the arc, while also converting 2-of-3 from the free throw line. Senior Megan Campbell added 16 points, 8 rebounds and four assists, while classmate Vanessa D'Ambrosi was the third Bulldog in double figures with 12 points. Senior Nicole Francomano chipped in with eight points and four assists.

The Rams were led by Nicole Gomez who scored a team-high 10 points off the bench.

The Bulldogs opened the game scoring the first four points before Farmingdale went on an 8-0 run to go up 8-4 at the 15:47 mark of the first half. Brooklyn would retake the lead answering with a 16-0 run to go ahead 20-8 with 10:21 left before the halftime break. BC would never trail again as the Bulldogs would head into the locker room with a 45-19 intermission lead.

The visitors would maintain their lead throughout the second half and cruise to the 76-44 win.

For the game, Brooklyn shot 42.9% (30-for-70) from the field, including 43.5% (10-for-23) from three. The Bulldogs also went 6-for-7 (85.7%) from the line. BC also won the battle of the glass 40-32.

Farmingdale shot 36.6% (15-for-41) from the field and 23.1% (3-for-13) from beyond the arc. The Rams also shot 44.0% (11-for-25) from the charity stripe.

Brooklyn returns to action this Wednesday, January 21st, as the Bulldogs will travel to City College of New York (CCNY) in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action. BC will look to sweep the season series over CCNY, as the Bulldogs defeated the Beavers, 66-36, earlier this season back on November 25th at the West Quad Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 pm at Nat Holman Gymnasium.
