BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Sophomore Alicia Brown (Greenland, N.H.) scored a career-high 19 points as four University of New England players reached double digits in an 88-35 win over Gordon College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's basketball action Thursday evening (Jan. 15) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

Winners of five straight games and 9 of their last 10, the Nor'easters improve to 10-2 overall and a perfect 7-0 in CCC play to sit atop the conference standings. Gordon drops to 2-12 overall and is winless in seven conference outings. UNE has taken the last 15 meetings with the Fighting Scots and has won 38 straight CCC regular-season contests on its home court.

Brown's 19 points came on 9-for-13 shooting from the floor, and in just 24 minutes of playing time. Junior Alanna Vose (Cushing, Maine) supported with 14 points, while classmates Sadie DiPierro (South Portland, Maine) and Lauren Hayden (Chantilly, Va.) added 12 and 11, respectively. Junior Meghan Gribbin (Windham, Maine) had nine points and nine assists, while senior Kelly Coleman (Portland, Conn.) finished with nine points, six rebounds and four steals. Hayden had six of UNE's 16 steals.

Senior Brooke Kratche (Chargin Falls, Ohio) scored 11 points for the Fighting Scots and junior Olivia Vetere (Mahopac, N.Y.) chipped in 10.

The Nor'easters scored the first 14 points of the contest and would cruise the rest of the way. Brown was dominant in the early going, tallying 11 of Big Blue's points during that outburst.  UNE continued to build its cushion and assumed a 43-18 advantage at the break.

The second frame was much of the same, with the Nor'easters taking their largest lead of the evening (56 at 88-32) with 3:33 on the clock. No player saw more than 25 minutes of court time for UNE, which made more than half (50.8 percent) of its field goal attempts.

For the game the Nor'easters made 10 of 19 (52.6 percent) attempts from beyond the arc and forced 31 Gordon turnovers.

Both teams will play Saturday at home. The Fighting Scots host rival Eastern Nazarene College, while UNE faces Roger Williams University in a rematch of last season's CCC title game. Each game is slated to start at 1 p.m.
