BANGOR, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball fell to Husson University on Saturday afternoon 63-41, falling to 4-8 on the season and 1-4 in the North Atlantic Conference.
The Eagles (6-4, 4-1) started things off with a 10-0 run in the opening minutes of the game but the Mariners fought back to close Husson's lead to 10-8, led by four points from senior captain Jillian Perron (Skowhegan, Maine). Husson went on a 12-2 run with five minutes left in the half, to increase their lead to 28-14 and took a 30-16 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Eagles built up their lead to 19 points with seven minutes remaining, a deficit that proved to be too large for the Mariners to overcome, falling 63-41.
Perron and Mary Badeen (Newport, Maine) led the Mariners with 13 points each, with Badeen adding seven boards, and Perron five. Lauren McKenna (Wilmington, Mass.) added six points and five rebounds off the bench.
For the Eagles, Stephanie Comstock finished with a game-high 16 points, while Chandler Guerrette added 10 points. Katy Brochu tied for a game-high seven rebounds.
The Mariners will return to action on Tuesday night when they host Thomas College at 5:30 p.m. inside of Smith Gymnasium.
