Geneseo Takes Down Oneonta, 51-47

ONEONTA, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior forward Shannon McGinnis scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season to lead the Knights past Oneonta, 51-47, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action, Friday night.

Senior forward Lea Sobieraski had a season-high 15 rebounds and scored four points while junior guard Dana Cohan added 13 points in the victory. 

Ahead 11-8 with 10:19 on the clock, Geneseo went on 9-2 run over the next 2:49 to take a 20-10 lead. The run was capped by a jumper from McGinnis at the 7:30 mark.

The Red Dragons (7-4, 2-2 SUNYAC) responded by going on a 12-1 run to take a 22-21 lead into halftime.

The Knights scored the first six points of the second half to take a 27-22 lead with 18:56 to play. At 14:20, sophomore guard Katie Durand hit a jumper to put the team up 29-24. Durand finished the night with seven points and three rebounds.

At 10:39, Geneseo regained its 10-point lead, 36-26, after a layup from sophomore guard Kara Houppert. Over the next five minutes, Oneonta went on a 11-4 run to cut the deficit to three, 40-37.

With under a minute to play, the Red Dragons came within two, 47-45, but Cohan made four free-throws down the stretch to secure the win for the Knights.

The Knights (6-3, 2-0 SUNYAC) continue conference play tomorrow night with a game at New Paltz slated to tip-off at 4 p.m.
