Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team picked up its fifth straight win on Friday night with a 91-38 non-conference triumph over visiting John Jay. Senior Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) posted her team leading seventh double-double in the game and led four players in double-figures with 25 points.

Mount Saint Vincent was never threatened in the game and moved out to a 14-3 lead on a Fraser lay-in four minutes into the contest. The Bloodhounds would cut their deficit to six points on a Terri Chu triple, but the Mount used a 19-6 run over the final 8:18 of the first half to surge to a 43-21 halftime advantage. The Dolphins forced 10 turnovers over that stretch and junior Theresa Carey (Hampton Bays, N.Y.) led the way in the run with nine points.

The Dolphins shot just shy of 41-percent from the floor in the first half, while holding John Jay to 17.9-percent shooting. The Mount dominated the paint, outscoring John Jay 30-4 inside in the opening stanza and turned 20 Bloodhounds turnovers into 21 points. Fraser led all scorers at the break with 14 points on 7-for-10 shooting.

Amber Villegas hit a jumper for the visitors in the early stages of the second half to bring them to within 18 points, but that would be as close as John Jay would get the rest of the night. The Dolphins outscored the Bloodhounds 25-2 over the next 5:32 to open a 68-27 lead on a pair of Allison Clarke (East Northport, N.Y.) free-throws with 13:42 left in regulation. The Dolphins went 10-for-15 from the floor over that stretch and got nine points from Fraser and seven from Clarke.

The Dolphins would climb out to their largest lead of the game, the final 91-38 decision, with 2:55 left to play when Alexandra Gundermann (Tuxedo, N.Y.) hit a three-point field goal. The bucket pushed the Dolphins past the 90 point plateau for the second straight contest and for the third time this season.

Fraser finished the contest leading all players with 25 points on 12-for-18 shooting and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds in just 19 minutes of work. She added a block and three steals in the game. Sophomore Brittany Carroll (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored in double-figures for the third straight game, posting 15 points, hitting three triples and going 6-for-13 from the floor overall.

Carey scored in double-figures for the fourth straight outing after netting 11 first half points for the Mount. She rounded out the game with four rebounds and an assist. Gundermann scored all 10 of her points after halftime on Friday, going 4-for-5 from the floor and adding a career-high four blocked shots.

Junior Nicole Oliver (Carmel, N.Y.) swiped three steals and grabbed five rebounds, while Christina Barone (Staten Island, N.Y.) handed out a game-high eight assists.

John Jay received a team-high 11 points from Villegas and a team-high 10 rebounds from Claire Prince.

The Dolphins held John Jay to 19.4-percent shooting and limited an opponent to sub 20-percent shooting for the second time this season. The Mount outscored John Jay in the paint 60-8 and off of turnovers 30-6. The Dolphins also finished the game with a 19-6 edge in second chance scoring and an 18-0 advantage in fast break points.

Friday's win moves Mount Saint Vincent to 10-2 overall on the season. The Dolphins will return to Skyline Conference play on Sunday when they play host to Purchase. Tip-off with the Panthers is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
