Newburgh, N.Y. – Sophomore Christina Barone (Staten Island, N.Y.) led five players in double-figures with 18 points and recorded her third double-double of the season with 10 assists as the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team scored a 93-75 road win at Mount Saint Mary to open Skyline Conference play on Tuesday evening.

The lead would change hands twice in the early going on Tuesday before a jumper from Nicole Oliver (Carmel, N.Y.) pushed the Mount in front for good in the game, giving the Dolphins an early 8-7 lead 3:29 into the contest.

The Oliver bucket was part of a 13-2 spurt from the Mount covering nearly six minutes that resulted in a 19-9 Mount Saint Vincent lead at the midway part of the half. The Dolphins featured five different scorers in the run, including five points from Brittany Carroll (Staten Island, N.Y.) who capped the spurt with a three-pointer.

Although Mount Saint Mary would not regain the lead in the game, it crept to within two points late in the first half on a pair of Lauren Romao free-throws to cut the Dolphins' lead to 33-31 with just under three minutes left before halftime.

The Dolphins answered the Mount Saint Mary surge by scoring 10 of the final 16 points in the half to carry a 43-37 lead into the intermission. Barone scored 13 points in the opening 20 minutes and Carroll added 11 as the Mount shot 44.7-percent from the floor and canned five three-pointers before the break.

The Knights would stay within striking distance early in the second half and cut its deficit to just a pair of points five times in the first 4:34 of the second period. However, Mount Saint Vincent would use a 19-4 run over a nearly six minute stretch to push its lead to 83-62 on a Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) three-point play.

Mount Saint Vincent would not allow Mount Saint Mary closer than 16 points the rest of the night and took a game-high 22 points lead with 3:33 left in regulation on a Morgan Dewberry (San Diego, Calif.) conversion that put the Mount ahead 89-67.

Dewberry reached double-figures for the first time at Mount Saint Vincent after going 5-for-6 from the floor on her way to 10 points. Allison Clarke (East Northport, N.Y.) reached double-figures for the second straight game for the Mount with 12 points on 4-for-7 shooting and Theresa Carey (Hampton Bays, N.Y.) matched her season-high with 12 points to go along with three assists.

Barone scored in double-figures for the ninth time this season, leading all players on Tuesday with 18 points after going 6-for-13 from the floor and 4-for-5 from the free-throw line. Barone handed out 10 assists, matching her season-high in the category. Carroll closed out the contingent in double-figures with 15 points, hitting three triples, and equaled her career-high with five helpers.

Mount Saint Mary had four players score in double-figures led by a team-high 17 points from Romao. The Knights shot 33.3-percent from the floor and went 35-for-38 from the free-throw line.

Overall, Mount Saint Vincent shot 47.2-percent from the field and hit eight three-point field goals. The Dolphins controlled the paint, outscoring the Knights 36-16, and turned 21 Mount Saint Mary turnovers into 31 points.

Tuesday's victory gives Mount Saint Vincent four straight wins and moves it to 9-2 overall and to 1-0 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will look for their fifth straight win on Friday when they welcome non-conference foe John Jay to the Peter Jay Sharp Center. Tip-off with the Bloodhounds is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
