Tigers Take Sole Possession of NCAC Lead with Win over Gators

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw couldn't have started much better after hitting its first seven field goal tries in the opening 4:16 and that set the tone for a 98-63 North Coast Athletic Conference victory over visiting Allegheny.

The Tigers, ranked 13th in the latest coaches' poll and 15th by D3hoops.com, improved to 10-1 overall and moved into sole possession of first in the NCAC at 3-0. Allegheny dropped to 9-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

All five starters scored during the opening blitz as the Tigers built a 17-2 lead with 15:44 left in the half. DePauw's first-half advantage reached as many as 19 and the Tigers took a 42-27 lead to the intermission.

The Gators briefly closed the gap to 13 in the early stages of the second half, but a 25-4 DePauw run over an eight-minute stretch put the game away.

Five Tigers scored in double figures paced by Savannah Trees with 19 and Hannah Douglas with 16. Hannah LukemeyerTaylor Howard and Melinda Franke each scored 10 with Lukemeyer and Franke each achieving career highs. Douglas grabbed a career-best 10 rebounds for her first collegiate double-double and shared assist honors withEmma Ondik as each had four.

Emma Pellicano paced Allegheny with 15 points followed by Kendall Hoffman and Meaghan Wilby with 12 each and Jessica Mrdjenovich with 11. Pellicano and Wilby each grabbed five rebounds and Marina Scaratino dished out five assists.

The Tigers shot 55.6 percent from the floor for their fourth game at or above 50 percent in the last six contests. Allegheny shot 42.6 percent from the field and connected on 8-of-19 from three-pointer range.

DePauw committed just eight turnovers to the Gators' 16 as the Tigers held a 27-8 edge in points off turnovers.

The Tigers host Hiram in a 2 p.m. NCAC tilt tomorrow. The Terriers dropped a 71-51 decision at Wittenberg tonight.
