Bethesda Women Start Fast, Cruise Past Pomona-Pitzer

Claremont, Calif. - The Bethesda University Women's Basketball team opened the game on a 16-2 run and went on to capture a 64-35 win over Pomona-Pitzer on New Year's Eve at Voelkel Gymnasium.

With the win, Bethesda improves to 7-10 on the season, while the Sagehens fall to 1-8 with their sixth straight defeat. 

The Flames built off their early start and stretched leads up to 31-8 late in the half and 40-17 at the half. Sophomore guard Kacie Hitomi closed out the half with a three-pointer, but Bethesda was able to start the second half quickly as well and build its lead up to as many as 36 points before settling for a 29-point final margin. 

Sophomore forward Basha Brulee-Wills led the Sagehens with eight points and six rebounds, while Hitomi had seven points and four steals. Charmaine Nelson had 12 points and eight rebounds for Bethesda, which started 6-5, 6-3 and 6-0 players across its frontcourt and held a commanding 58-33 edge on the boards. Alysia Randall added 10 points, five assists and four steals. 

Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action on Saturday when it opens SCIAC play with a road game at Occidental.
