The UW-Superior women's basketball team headed to Ashland Saturday afternoon looking to not only stretch their current win streak to six consecutive games, but also close out the first half of 2014-15 on a high note.

UW-Superior did just that, jumping out to an early lead and never looking back in cruising to a 78-35 win over Northland College at Kendrigan Gymnasium.

The victory improved the Yellowjackets' overall record to 6-3 and also allowed UW-Superior to substitute liberally as 16 players saw action on the afternoon.

Northland (1-4) cut the deficit to 15-10 on a basket by Kaitlyn Witthun with 11:47 remaining before the Yellowjackets came back to score 12 of the next 17 points for a 27-15 margin following three-point play by Molly Atherton (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) at the 5:24 mark.

The Yellowjackets continued to pull away from there, getting two baskets from Jade Tucker (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake Area) and a score from Amelia Leger (Andover, Minn./Andover) in the final 2:09 to take a 37-19 edge into the intermission.

UW-Superior expanded their lead throughout the second half, outscoring Northland 41-16 after halftime while holding the Lumberjills to just 29.5 percent shooting and forcing 29 turnovers on the afternoon.
