Tigers Move to 9-1 with Win over Millsaps; Ondik Named Hasbrook Classic MVP

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw limited Millsaps to just 19 percent first-half shooting and only 11 points and led the entire way in grabbing a 66-44 win over the Majors in the Amy Hasbrook Memorial Classic. 

The Tigers, ranked 13th in the latest coaches' poll and 15th by D3hoops.com, improved to 9-1 with their 59th straight regular season home win. Millsaps dropped to 7-3.

DePauw jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead and held Millsaps to just two field goals in the first 13 minutes in taking a 17-5 advantage. The Majors were within 10, but Classic MVP Emma Ondikknocked in three three-pointers in a 2:35 stretch to lift the Tigers to a 30-11 halftime lead.

Millsaps got no closer than that 19-point margin and the Tigers led by as many as 29 with 7:34 remaining.

Ondik led the Tigers with 17 to match yesterday's total and she canned 5-10 three-pointers. Lauren Abendroth followed with 13, while Hannah Douglas and Hannah Lukemeyer each grabbed seven rebounds. Douglas also dished out three assists and blocked two shots and Abby Keller recorded three steals. Keller joined Ondik on the all-classic team.

Velvet Johnson paced the Majors with 24 points including 18 in the second half, while Miah Brooks led the way with nine rebounds. Both were named to the all-classic squad. Sam Perez handed out eight assists and had three steals in the loss.

DePauw shot 41.1 percent from the floor and nailed 10 three-pointers, while the Majors finished at 28.8 percent for the contest. The Tigers also held a 41-34 edge on the boards. 

Kyleigh Hebert of UW-Stout rounded out the all-classic team.

The Tigers return to North Coast Athletic Conference action on Friday, January 2, when they host Allegheny at 6 p.m.
