WOMEN'S COUGARS SCORE 45 POINTS IN A GAME, MOST THIS SEASON

Brooklyn, NY- The Women's Basketball team fell to the Yeshiva University Maccabees 56-45 in the 2nd game, which was part of the 16th Annual Dr. Betty Shabazz Tournament. The 45pts is a season high. The Maccabees improve to 1-4 overall while the Cougars drop to 0-5 overall. 

The Cougars shot 21.7% from the field, 18.2% from 3pt. range, and 48.1% from the free throw line. They were close to the lead numerous times, but couldn't get over the hump.

The Cougars were led by Junior Guard Nia Tompkins with 12pts (5-15 FG-FGA, 2-8 3pt. FG-FGA, and 0-6 FT-FTA). Tompkins grabbed seven rebounds, dished out an assist, swiped away two shots, and stole the ball four times. Freshman Forward Jade Venson scored 11pts (3-16 FG-FGA,0-2 3pt. FG-FGA, and 5-8 FT-FTA). Jade grabbed a game high 18 rebounds, dished out an assist, swiped away three shots, and added a steal. Her 18 rebounds is a career high.

Yeshiva was led by Stephanie Greenberg with 16pts. Two other Maccabees scored in double figures including the following: Rachel Mirsky (14pts) and Ester Kerzner (10pts).

In Game 1, the College of New Rochelle Blue Angels defeated the College of Old Westbury Panthers 78-72. The Cougars will play the Panthers in the Consolation Game. Tip off will be 1:00 pm, followed by the Championship Game featuring the College of New Rochelle Blue Angels vs. the Yeshiva University Maccabees. Game time will be 3:00 pm.
