Brooklyn, NY- The Women's Basketball team fell to the United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners 78-48 earlier tonight. The Mariners improve to 1-2 overall while the Cougars drop to 0-7 overall.

The Mariners led wire to wire. The Cougars held the Mariners to under a ten point lead, for majority of the 1st half.
The Cougars led by Junior Guard Nia Tompkins with 16 points (6-21 FG-FGA, 4-14 3pt. FG-FGA, 0-1 FT-FTA). Tompkins grabbed six rebounds, dished out an assist, and added two steals. Freshman Forward Jade Venson scored 13 points (3-8 FG-FGA, 1-1 3pt. FG-FGA, and 6-8 FT-FTA). The Bronx, NY native grabbed 13 rebounds (12 defensive), dished out three assists, and swiped away three blocks. This is Vensons' 3rd double-double of the season.
The Mariners were led by Demi VanDerWal with a game high 25 points. Jenna Wetherington added 16 points.

The Cougars will be back in action on Friday December 5, 2014, when they play the Lehman College Lightning. This CUNYAC matchup will take place at Cougars Cave and tip off will be 6:00 pm.
