Caiazzo's Triple-Double Paces Manhattanville in Win

Purchase, N.Y. - In the final women's basketball game of 2014, the Rams fell, 75-65, in a non-conference game at Manhattanville this afternoon. Farmingdale State will resume play on Friday, January 2nd when they square off against New Jersey City University at the West Conn Hat City Classic.

Leading 13-8 with 11:19 remaining in a low scoring first half, a 13-4 Valiants run over the next 5:40 increased Manhattanville's advantage to 26-12.

The Rams trailed by 15 with less than two minutes remaining, but used 3-pointers by Nicole Lanteri (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and Meghan Cleary (East Meadow, N.Y.) to cut the halftime deficit to 40-30. The Valiants shot 38% from the field in the first half, while Farmingdale State was held to only 26% shooting.

After Manhattanville led 46-37, the Rams used a 14-4 run to take their first lead of the game at 51-50 with 12:04 left on the clock.

The Valiants held a one point edge, 57-56, but pulled away after scoring 10 unanswered points to lead 67-56 with 3:44 remaining. Farmingdale State was only able to close within five points down the stretch as they fell, 75-65.

Desvignes poured in a game-high 31 points and added seven rebounds and five assists, while Lanteri had 19 points and a game-high five steals. Junior forward Marlaina Sherman (Miller Place, N.Y.) blocked five shots which ties her career-high.

Senior center Alyson Caiazzo (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded a triple-double for Manhattanville after scoring 19 points, having 10 assists and grabbing a game-high 27 rebounds. Freshman forward Joiada Darnell (St. Albans, N.Y.) tallied a double-double with 10 points and 19 boards.
