Trine Win-Streak Halted at Calvin

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH.-- Trine's saw a six-game winning-streak snapped as the Thunder were defeated by 17th-ranked Calvin, 97-50, Saturday afternoon at Van Noord Arena.

The Knights jumped all over the Thunder from the early-going and never trailed in the contest. Thirteen different players scored for Calvin, led by Kayla Engelhard's 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Hannah Acre notched a double-double, with 12 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Ashley Elliott (Scottsburg, Ind./Scottbsurg) scored 10 points and added five rebounds to lead the Thunder. Calvin shot 50 percent (37-of-74) while holding Trine to a 15-of-58 (26 percent) clip. The Thunder fall to 6-2 on the season. The Knights are now 7-0 on the year.

Kayla Dunn (Columbia City, Ind./Columbia City) scored eight points on 2-of-5 shooting for Trine. Brooklyn Harrison (Warsaw, Ind./Warsaw) added a career-high eight points. Ten different Thunder players scored in the effort.

Kelsey Pollock also reached double-figures for Calvin, with 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting. The Knights outrebounded the Thunder by a 55-30 margin, and produced 21 second-chance points. Calvin picked up assists on 24 of their 37 made field goals.

The Knights used 9-2, 9-1, and 8-0 runs in blowing the game open in the first half. Seven different Calvin players scored in the game's first 15 minuts as the Knights opened up a 20-point lead and never let the Thunder get comfortable. Calvin's trapping defense forced Trine into 22 turnovers, which the Knights turned into 24 points.

The Thunder will go on the road to face Division-I foe Western Michigan this Thursday, Dec. 18. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at University Arena.
