(Haverford, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team got off to a rough start at Haverford College on Saturday, suffering its second loss, 78-48, to start Centennial Conference play. The Red Devils had a tough week, opening against preseason favorite, Johns Hopkins, on Wednesday and facing defending CC champ, Haverford this afternoon.
The hosts jumped out to a 14-0 lead, holding the Devils scoreless for the opening six minutes of the game. First-year Myonie Williamson put the Devils on the board with a pair of free throws to break up the run.
Haverford continued to build a lead over the course of the first half as the Devils struggled on the offensive end. Sophomore Helen Roberts came off the bench to knock-down a three-pointer and Jennifer Smith gave Dickinson some late scoring as well.
Haverford held a 43-13 advantage at halftime and had another strong start after the break. The 'Fords stretched the lead to 59-13 before Mary Martin answered off an assist from Roberts.
Williamson drained an three-pointer and Martin scored again, but the Devils could not cut into the lead. The Devils made a nice run, coming out of a timeout at the 10:19 mark. Smith hit a jumper, followed by three-pointers from Mackenzie Skerritt and Roberts, with assists from Smith.
Roberts caught fire, draining five three-pointers over a four minute span. The Red Devils finished strong and played well down the stretch, but were unable to overcome the early deficit.
Roberts led the Red Devils with a game-high 18 points, finishing with six three-pointers. Her six three-pointers mark the third highest single-game total in program history.
Martin tallied 11 points and four rebounds while Smith added six points, five rebounds and three assists. Williamson scored seven points to go with three assists and a pair of steals.
Four players reached double-figures for Haverford, led by Anna Schrecengost and Jacquelyne Pizzuto, each with 14 points. Pizzuto had a team-high seven rebounds as well.
