Amherst, Mass.-The No. 2-ranked Amherst College women's basketball team used a game-high 19-point effort from sophomore guard Ali Doswell (Richmond, VA) to cruise to a 74-35 victory over Rhode Island College in women's basketball action on Wednesday night at LeFrak Gymnasium.

The Lord Jeffs (7-0) jumped out to an early, 14-3, lead in the first 5:31 of play and never looked back. A layup by RIC (2-7) junior guard Michelle Lagrotteria (Niantic, CT) at the 13:42 mark cut the deficit to single digits and a bucket from junior forward Devin Hill (Danielson, CT) on RIC's next possession put the Anchorwomen within six, 14-8, but a three-pointer from freshman guard Hannah Hackley (Westford, MA) sparked a 15-0 Amherst run.

Amherst took a commanding 46-14 lead into the break.

In the second half, the Anchorwomen's defense stepped up and held Amherst to just 28 points, but the host's defense was too strong, holding the Anchorwomen to just 21 points and 26.1 percent (8-for-22) shooting from the field and 16.7 percent (1-for-6) from downtown.

Lagrotteria scored 12 of her 18 points in the final 20 minutes of regulation but the Amherst attack proved to be too strong as the Jeffs cruised to the 74-35 win.

For the game, Amherst finished shooting 51.8 percent from the floor (29-for-56), 43.5 percent (10-for-23) from behind the three-point arc and 66.7 percent (6-for-9) from the charity stripe.

RIC shot 26.1 percent (12-for-46) from the field, 11.1 percent (1-for-9) from long range and 71.4 percent (10-for-14) from the charity stripe. The Jeffs held a commanding, 44-22, rebounding edge and recorded 16 team assists to Rhode Island College's four.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East Conference action at UMass Boston on Saturday, Dec. 13 (1 p.m.).
