Tigers now 7-1 after hammering Covenant, 66-38

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. (Dec. 9, 2014) – The Sewanee women's basketball team won its third straight game after hammering Covenant, 66-38, Tuesday, inside the Barnes P.E. Center

The Tigers are now 7-1 under first-year head coach Tom Campbell.

Sewanee quickly opened a 20-point lead, 23-3, after a 22-0 run by the Tigers over the first 12 minutes of the game.

After a layup and free throw by freshman Rebekah Faulkner, the Tigers were ahead by 19, 30-11, with less than a minute remaining in the first half.

Sewanee eventually led by as much as 30 with 8:33 left in the contest.

Overall, the Tigers made 45.6 percent of their attempts. Sewanee also outrebounded the Lady Scots by 10, 44-34.

Defensively, the Tigers limited Covenant's shooting percentage to 23.2 percent. Sewanee also forced 23 turnovers, which led to 21 points, and finished with nine blocks.

Individually, freshman guard Hannah McCormack led all scorers with a game-high 17 points. Guard Jamie Chauvin also kept her streak of double figure scoring games going with 10 points.

Finally, Faulkner added 10 points while Kayla Sewell scored four points, grabbed nine rebounds, had five assists, and blocked six shots.

Guard Haley Soles led Covenant with 14 points.

The Tigers will now take the next three weeks off before opening Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play against rival Centre, January 4, 2015. That contest is scheduled to tipoff at 1:00 p.m., inside Juhan Gymnasium.
