Quakers Tame Tigers

RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College women's basketball team had three players in double figures on Tuesday as the Quakers defeated Wittenberg University 67-58.

Kasin Spay led Earlham with 22 points on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center as the Quakers won for the second straight year over the Tigers (5-3). Earlham won 57-50 last season in Springfield.

JaLissa Watt tossed in 13 points to go with four steals, while Hannah Franklin added 10 points.

Maya Luney led the Quakers with eight rebounds. Spay and Mariah Flynn had six rebounds apiece. Spay and Watt finished with a team-high three assists each.

Wittenberg grabbed an early 5-2 advantage before the Quakers answered to build a double-digit margin in the first half.

Lexi McFarland put the Quakers in front 25-10 with a basket with 4:02 left in the opening period.

By halftime, the Quakers led 34-22.

In the second half, Watt scored to make it 40-24 at the 18:40 mark.

The Tigers were able to rally and cut the deficit to 45-38 with 10:58 remaining.

But the Quakers responded with another run to go on top 54-39 when Spay scored with 6:48 left.

Wittenberg was able to close the gap again at 62-56 in the final minute of play but it didn't matter as the Quakers put the game away.

Earlham (3-4, 0-2) resumes its Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule on Saturday at home against Hanover College. The contest gets underway at 2 p.m.
