Christina Barone Tabbed Skyline Conference Player Of The Week

New York, N.Y. – College of Mount Saint Vincent sophomore guard Christina Barone (Staten Island, N.Y.) has been named the Skyline Conference Player of the Week in Women's Basketball it was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. The honor is the first for Barone this season and the third for the program.

 

Barone had a strong all-around week for Mount Saint Vincent, who posted a 2-1 record over three non-conference games. She averaged 20.7 points, 8.7 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game for the Dolphins while averaging 36 minutes per game. She shot 41.5-percent (17-for-41) from the floor, 40-percent (4-for-10) from three-point range and 85.7-percent (24-for-28) from the free-throw line.

 

Barone scored in double-figures in all three games for the Dolphins last week, opening the three game stretch with her second double-double of the season in a 73-58 win over York. She shot 9-for-12 from the free-throw line against the Cardinals on her way to 15 points and 10 assists for the Dolphins.

 

In the team's home opener on Thursday, a 79-50 triumph over St. Jospeph's-Brooklyn, Barone netted 18 points and added nine more assists for the Dolphins before posting a career-high 29 points in a 76-66 road loss at Worcester State on Saturday. In Saturday's tilt, Barone went 9-for-18 from the floor and 9-for-10 from the free-throw line, adding seven assists and six rebounds for the Mount.

 

At 16.1 points per game, Barone leads the team in scoring average through seven games and currently ranks inside the top-10 in seven categories among the Skyline Conference leaders. She sits third in assists per game and free-throw percentage and fifth in scoring average, field goal percentage and assist-to-turnover ratio.

 

At 5-2 overall on the season, Mount Saint Vincent will return to the Peter Jay Sharp Center on December 15 when it plays host to Albertus Magnus. Tip-off with the Falcons is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
