CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Senior Samantha Pagel (Harleysville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) posted a career-high 18 points and Gettysburg College held Washington College to just four field goals in the second half as the Bullets picked up a 53-42 victory on Saturday.

Gettysburg (7-0, 5-0 CC) maintained its perfect record by holding Washington (3-5, 0-3 CC) to just 4-of-31 (12.9 percent) shooting in the second half. The Bullets came into the game ranked fourth in the nation in defensive field-goal percentage and the Shorewomen were keenly aware of that after managing just 25.2 percent shooting from the floor for the game.

Pagel topped her previous personal best by one point after hitting 7-of-11 field goals and 4-of-7 free throws. She added six rebounds. Junior Emily Duggan (Marmora, N.J./Ocean City) tallied 11 points and five rebounds, while freshman Annie Reilly (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) totaled 10 rebounds, four assists, and four blocked shots.

Despite the double-figure victory, it was Washington that jumped out to the early lead and held the upper-hand throughout the first period. A three-pointer by Daniela Falcone put the Shorewomen ahead 13-5 just over seven minutes into the game.

The Bullets cut the deficit to one several times in the latter stages of the first period, but were unable to grab the lead. Gettysburg tied the game twice in the final minute of the half, including 26-26 on a fade-away jumper by Jenna Swope (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) just before the halftime horn.

Gettysburg established its frontcourt superiority in the final stanza, out-scoring the hosts 22-6 in the paint. Each of the first six buckets scored by the visitors in the second half came from under the hoop with a lay-up by junior Jessica Porter (Narberth, Pa./Lower Merion) making it 38-32 with 10:52 to play.

The lead reached double-figures for the first time at 44-33 on a drive down the left side and lay-up by Pagel with 8:13 left. Gettysburg's advantage reached 17 (53-36) on a lay-up by Reilly with just over two minutes remaining.

Swope finished with seven points, nine rebounds, and three assists, while Porter logged six points and seven rebounds for Gettysburg.

The Bullets held Washington's two leading scorers, Emily Hubley and Carley Kendall, to a combined 13 points on 4-of-26 shooting. Brynne Brouse tallied six points and four boards for the Shorewomen.

Gettysburg closes the first semester with a non-conference road trip to Shenandoah University on Monday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m.
