Maine-Farmington Rallies Past Mariners in Nail-Biter

FARMINGTON, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy Women's Basketball (1-3, 0-1) fell to North Atlantic Conference foe Maine-Farmington (1-4, 1-0) on Tuesday night, 60-56.

The Mariners set the tone early in the first half, jumping out to a 5-0 lead. The Beavers responded with six unanswered points to take a 6-5 lead with 16:52 remaining. The two teams continued to battle for the lead, a feat that changed five times over the course of the first half. The Mariners took the biggest lead of the half 21-15, with just over seven minutes remaining.

Maine-Farmington went ahead four minutes into the second half and never looked back. The Beavers increased their lead to nine points at the 10:15 mark, but the Mariners clawed their way back into the game. In a two-minute span, Maine Maritime hit two shots from beyond the arc and hit four clutch free throws to cut Maine-Farmington's lead to 51-50 with 7:09 remaining. 

Maine-Farmington held the Mariners to six points for the remainder of the game to take the victory.

Mary Badeen (Newport, Maine) led the Mariners with a game-high 18 points, including 11 points in the final eight minutes. Badeen added five assists, four rebounds, and three steals. Senior Jillian Perron (Skowhegan, Maine) recorded 12 points, three rebounds and a steal, while Mackenzie Vosburgh (Rhinebeck, N.Y.) added 10 points, all in the first half.

Coming off the bench, Kennadi Grover led the Beavers with 14 points, three rebounds, two steals and an assist. Bianca Stoutamyer grabbed 11 points, while four others added eight points each for the hosts.

Maine Maritime returns to action this Saturday, December 6th when they host NAC rival Husson University at 1:00 PM.
