#9 DePauw Stays Unbeaten with Win over Franklin in Home Opener

Greencastle, Ind-  Ninth-ranked DePauw moved to 3-0 on the season following a 71-51 win over Franklin in the home opener. Franklin dropped to 2-1.

A pesky Grizzlies' defense limited the Tigers' offensive opportunities in the opening half. DePauw shot just 26.8 percent from the floor, including an 8.3 percent (1-of-12) mark from three.

Neither team was able to build a substantial lead, as the half featured five ties and two lead changes. DePauw held a 26-23 lead at halftime, paced by Lauren Abendroth and Abby Keller who each had five points.

Franklin's Katie Brewer had a double-double in the first half with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

In the second half, the Grizzlies took a one-point lead with 18:24 remaining, but the Tigers took over from there. Over the next nine minutes DePauw retook and extended their lead to 18.

The Tigers forced eight turnovers and converted those turnovers into 18 points. Emma Ondik netted 17 second-half points, going 6-of-6 from the floor and 3-3 from three-point land. DePauw would lead by as much as 23 before sealing the 20-point victory.

Four Tigers scored in double-digits led by Ondik's 17. Taylor Howard totaled 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds, while Abendroth and Savannah Trees finished with 10.

Brewer had a game-high 18 points and 17 rebounds, while Kayle Comer netted nine points in the loss.

DePauw shot 37.1 percent from the floor and 21.1 percent from three, while Franklin hit at a 36.7 percent mark from the floor and 23.5 percent from beyond the arc. The Tigers won the turnover battle, forcing 17 turnovers and committing just six. They converted those 17 forced turnovers to 26 points.

The Tigers held a 45-35 edge on rebounds and score 36 points in the paint to the Grizzlies' 16.

DePauw is back in action Saturday, November 29, when it competes in the Midwest Challenge at Illinois College. The Tigers open against Illinois Wesleyan at 2 p.m. CST.
