Desvignes and Romero Lead FSC Past Mount Holyoke

Farmingdale State - 62, Mount Holyoke - 55


Amherst, Mass. - In the consolation game of the Amherst Tournament, Farmingdale State earned a 62-55 victory over Mount Holyoke on Sunday afternoon. The women's basketball team improved to 3-2 on the year, while the Lyons fell to 1-4.

Leading 32-30 with 16:14 remaining, Farmingdale State senior guard Nicole Lanteri (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) connected on a 3-pointer to increase the Rams advantage to five. On Mount Holyoke's next possession, senior guard Kate Karraker (Morgantown, W.V.) was fouled on a 3-point attempt and cut the deficit back to two after converting all three at the line.

Tied 41-41 with 10:49 left to play, an 8-1 Farmingdale State run over the next 2:40 highlighted by a pair of Andrea Desvignes (Deer Park, N.Y.) 3-pointers gave the Rams a seven point edge, 49-42.

A Karraker 3 with less than four minutes remaining pulled Mount Holyoke within three points, but five straight points from Camille Romero (Queens, N.Y) and a pair of free-throw's by Jeanette Spillane (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) put the Rams ahead 60-50. Farmingdale State held on for the 62-55 non-conference victory over Mount Holyoke.

Desvignes had 19 points, seven rebounds and three steals, while Romero also scored 19 but added six assists and four steals.

Karraker tallied a game-high 24 points after connecting on seven 3-pointers for the Lyons.

Farmingdale State next will travel to NYU for a non-conference game on Tuesday, December 9th at 6:00 p.m.
