The New York University women's basketball team, currently ranked #17 in the latest USA Today Coaches Poll, defeated Springfield College 60-41 in Springfield, MA, on Saturday, November 22.
The Violets (4-0) led 25-22 at halftime and still by only three, 31-28, with 15 minutes remaining before embarking on a 15-2 run to secure the win. The lead rose as high as 21 points in the waning moments.
Megan Dawe led a balanced scoring effort with 12 points. Maya Wasowicz and Emily Rowe each came off the bench to score eight points.
"I was really happy with our energy in the second half," said Head Coach Lauren Hall-Gregory.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Kaitlyn Read had a team-high seven rebounds, while also contributing six points, four steals and three assists.
- Dawe finished with six rebounds and Rowe had five.
- Amy Harioka also had four steals for the Violets.
- Jaimie Bickelhaupt recorded a double-double (11 points, 11 rebounds) for the Pride (0-2).
"It was a good all-around effort by our team," Hall-Gregory added. "We got important contributions from many of our players."
The Violets return to the court this Tueday, Niovember 25, when they play at St. Joseph's College-LI in Patchogue, NY, at 7:00 pm.
