Providence, R.I.-Junior forward Devin Hill (Danielson, CT) tallied nine points and seven rebounds, while sophomore guard Alex Moore (West Newbury, MA) chipped in with seven points, as Rhode Island College women's basketball team lost, 56-35, to WPI in non-conference action played at The Murray Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Anchorwomen (0-4) were also led by freshman forward Rybecca Gonzalez (Pawtucket, RI), who scored two points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

The Engineers (3-1) were paced by senior guard Rachel Pineda (Shrewsbury, MA) with 11 points, six boards and a game-high five steals. Senior forward Amaia Gritsko (Milford, CT) grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out three assists, while junior guard Lisa Mendez (Yonkers, NY) also scored in double figures with 11 points.

WPI raced out to an early 10-0 lead, capped by a three-pointer from senior forward Dani Davis (East Granby, CT) with 14:56 remaining in the first half.  Sophomore guard Meghan Reall (Smithfield, RI) scored the next seven points to cut the WPI lead to three, 10-7, with 12:14 remaining. The Engineers used a 20-11 run to close out the half and take the 30-18 lead into the locker room.

In the first half, the Engineers shot 38.7 percent (12-for-31) from the field, 57.1 percent (4-for-7) from beyond the three-point arc and 28.6 percent (2-for-7) from the free throw line. RIC shot 18.9 percent (7-for-37) from the field, was perfect from the free throw line (1-for-1) and 15.8 percent (3-for-19) from long range.

WPI took control in the second half, opening up a 16-point advantage on a layup from sophomore forward Tessa Nogueira (Merrimac, MA) with 15:01 remaining. The Engineer lead ballooned to as large as 22 points and they rode a lockdown defensive effort to the 21-point victory.

The Anchorwomen shot 20.9 percent (14-for-67) from the field for the game, while shooting just 13.8 percent (4-29) from three-point range and 42.9 percent (3-7) from the free throw line.

The Engineers shot 33.9 percent (20-for-59) from the field, 43.8 percent (7-for-16) from long range and 47.4 percent (9-for-19) from the charity stripe.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Bridgewater State on Tuesday, Nov. 25 (5:30 p.m.).
