Hoboken, NJ --- The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball team dropped a 64-49 decision to the Ducks of the Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon at Canavan Arena.
With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 1-2 overall on the young season, while the Ducks improve to 2-1 overall on the year.
Senior Vanessa D'Ambrosi led BC with a team-high 13 points, while classmate Nicole Francomano added 11 points. Senior Asia Foster chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds.
For Stevens, the duo of Dylan Krause and Kaitlyn Astel netted 14 points each. Astel also pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds to record a double-double. Megan Petuskey finished with 11 points coming off the bench. Brittany Washington also helped on the rebounding effort with eight boards, to go along with eight points, as the home team also won the battle of the glass, 44-32.
The Bulldogs' shooting woes plagued the visitors all day long, as BC shot just 31.5% (17-for-54) from the field, including 5.9% (1-for-17) from beyond the arc. Brooklyn also shot 60.9% (14-for-23) from the line.
The Ducks by comparison shot 46.3% (25-for-54) from the field, including 44.4% (8-for-18) from three. Stevens went to the charity stripe just seven times, converting six of its attempts (85.7%).
Following a layup from BC's Francomano that tied the game at 3-3 at the 16:56 mark of the first half, the home Ducks would seize control of the game outscoring the Bulldogs 18-5 over the next five minutes to go up by 13, 21-8, with 11:18 left in the opening half.
Brooklyn would chip away at its deficit, getting to within four on two occasions, before Stevens took a five-point, 27-22, halftime lead into the locker room.
The second half would see the Ducks score the first five points of the period to once again go ahead by double digits, 32-22, at the 17:52 mark. The Bulldogs would again attempt to cut into its deficit, getting to within six, 36-30, on a jumper from senior Jaclyn Grasso with 12:06 remaining in the game; however, that's as close as BC would get, as Stevens would answer with back-to-back three-pointers from Petuskey and Krause to put the home team up 12, 42-30, with 11:04 left on the clock.
The Ducks' lead would never be threatened as Stevens would eventually lead by as many as 22, 62-40, with 3:08 remaining, en route to taking the 15-point victory, 64-49.
Brooklyn returns to action on Tuesday, November 25th, as the Bulldogs will begin City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play hosting the Beavers of The City College of New York (CCNY). BC's 2014-2015 home opener is scheduled for a 5:00 pm tip-off.
