Millikin Women Win Third Straight

          The Millikin women's basketball won its third straight game defeating Greenville College 65-60 on November 22 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.  Millikin is now 3-1 on the season and Greenville goes to 0-2.

          The game was a wild contest with Millikin leading much of the first half before Greenville rallied to take a 32-28 lead at halftime.  The Panthers would lead by nine points with 14 minutes left before the Big Blue staged a rally of its own.  Millikin tied the game at 51-51 with 7:29 left to play on a Yip Ypya three-pointer.  Millikin would then take the lead for good at 53-51 on an Alyssa Saklak basket.

          The game was played at a frantic pace with plenty of physical defense on display.  The contest had 52 turnovers (29 for Greenville, 23 for Millikin) and 10 blocked shots (seven for Greenville and three for Millikin).  Millikin shot 37.5 percent from the field with Greenville hitting on 37 percent.  Millikin took five more shots than the Panthers.  Greenville won the rebounding battle 40-38.

          Millikin had three players score in double figures led by Saklak with 20 points, seven steals and six rebounds.  Ypya had 18 points and Kelsey Going had 13 points and a team high eight rebounds. 

          Coley Baker led Greenville with 18 points along with six rebounds and seven blocks.  Claire Schmitt had 17 points and four steals.

          Millikin will host Principia College on Tuesday, November 25 at 5 p.m.
