Anderson Posts Double-Double in R-MC's Win over Methodist

ASHLAND, Va. – Junior Katie Anderson (Beaverdam, Va./Patrick Henry) recorded a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds as the Randolph-Macon women's basketball team defeated Methodist 85-57 Friday evening in Crenshaw Gymnasium in the first round of the R-MC Tip-Off Classic, sponsored by Riesbeck Contracting

Junior Hannah Livermon (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) added 19 points and senior Sarah Parsons (Glen Allen, Va./J.R. Tucker) chipped in 11 for the Yellow Jackets (3-0).

Livermon hit a pair of three-pointers in the first five minutes as R-MC took an 8-2 lead and would never trail. The Monarchs (0-3) closed to within one at 8-7 before a 13-2 spurt gave the Yellow Jackets a 21-9 lead midway through the first half. The margin grew to 16 at 32-16 before R-MC took a 35-22 advantage to the locker room at the break.

The Yellow Jackets used a 16-4 run at the start of the second half to assume a 25-point lead at 51-26. The lead would not fall below 20 the rest of the way. The margin expanded to 33 at 82-49 before R-MC completed the 85-57 victory.

R-MC held a 46-38 advantage on the boards. The Yellow Jackets forced 24 turnovers and recorded 16 steals.

Livewrmon hit five of six three-pointers and had three steals. Senior Caroline Young (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) had nine rebounds to go along with six points. Freshman Amber Lee (Rockville, Va./Patrick Henry) came off the bench to contribute seven points and seven rebounds.

In the second round of the R-MC Tip-Off Classic, Randolph-Macon will host Stevenson on Saturday at 4 pm. The Mustangs defeated Bridgewater 66-45 on Friday evening.
