Rams Fall to Kean in Championship Game

Union, N.J. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team fell, 65-61, to host school Kean University in the Championship Game of the 2014 Kean Classic on Sunday afternoon in Union, N.J. The Rams dropped to 1-1 on the year, while the Cougars improved to a perfect 2-0.

Tied 33-33 at halftime, Farmingdale State opened the second with six straight points to quickly take a 39-33 lead.

The Rams held a 45-40 advantage with 14:10 remaining, before an 11-0 Cougars run over the next 5:54 put Kean ahead by six, 51-45. Farmingdale State responded with three straight baskets to again tie the game at 51-51 with less than seven minutes remaining.

Trailing 60-59 with 1:24 left on the clock, senior guard Camille Romero (Bronx, N.Y.) hit a jumper to give the Rams a one point edge. Kean closed the game with five unanswered points as they earned the 65-61 victory.

Junior guard Andrea Desvignes (Deer Park, N.Y.) led FSC with a game-high 21 points to go along with six rebounds, six steals and three assists. Romero, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, pitched in scoring 19, while senior guard Nicole Lanteri (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) added 11 points and five boards.

Junior forward Jazmine Davis (Tinton Falls, N.J.) recorded a double-double with 17 rebounds and 12 points for Kean. Davis was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

The Rams next will host William Paterson in a non-conference game on Wednesday, November 19th at 7:00 p.m.
