Brooklyn Cruises Past St. Joseph’s (LI) in Consolation Game of Roadrunner Tip-Off Tournament

Mahwah, NJ --- The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball team (1-1) closed out the 2014 Ramapo College Roadrunner Tip-Off Tournament with a 69-44 victory over the Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's College (Long Island) (0-2) on Sunday afternoon in the consolation game.

For her efforts, senior Vanessa D'Ambrosi (13 points) was named to the All-Tournament team.

Along with D'Ambrosi, classmates Megan Campbell and Nicole Francomano also helped to power the Bulldogs to their first win of the season. Campbell finished the day with a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Francomano filled up the stat sheet with 15 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Seniors Nacirema Mann and Asia Foster also played key roles in the victory, as Mann came off the bench to chip in with 10 points and seven rebounds, while Foster pulled down eight rebounds, to go with five points.

As a team, the Bulldogs dominated the glass out-rebounding the Golden Eagles, 57-36, which led to 20 second chance points for BC. The Bulldogs also scored 17 points off of 16 St. Joe's (LI) turnovers.

For the game, Brooklyn's stingy defense held SJC to just 20% (11-for-55) shooting from the field.

The Golden Eagles were led by Rynese Smith's team-high 12 points. Jennifer Gubell added 11 points coming off the bench.

Following a jumper from Gubell that gave the Golden Eagles an 18-14 lead, their largest of the game, with 8:34 remaining in the first half; Brooklyn used a 10-0 run to retake the lead for good, 24-18, with 5:07 left in the half. D'Ambrosi (six points) and Mann (four points) powered the run.

BC would eventually take a 10-point half time lead, 34-24, into the locker room.

The Bulldogs opened the second half on a 14-0 run to put the game away and take a 48-24 lead with 16:52 remaining in the game. BC would lead by as many as 30, 61-31, with nine minutes left in the game en route to its 69-44 victory.

Brooklyn will be back in action this Saturday, November 22nd, as the Bulldogs will travel to Hoboken, NJ to take on the Ducks of Stevens Institute of Technology. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 pm tip-off. Live stats will be available.
