LA CROSSE, Wis. -- Alverno College bounced back from a lob-sided loss on Saturday night and posted a 67-50 win over Mount Mary University Sunday afternoon at the Holiday Inn Express Tipoff Classic hosted by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

The Inferno (1-1) led the entire game as it jumped out to an 8-0 lead and never looked back. A Nyakok Duoplayup put Alverno ahead 17-7 and a double-digit lead would remain intact the final 32 minutes of action.

Mollie Mikyska scored to increase the lead to a game-high 20 with just under 11 minutes to play, and the lead would stay in the 16-20 point range the remained of play.

Alverno overcame poor shooting from the 3-point (5-of-22) and free-throw lines (4-of-12) with a solid 40-percent (29-of-72) shooting performance from the field and a 52-36 advantage in rebounds, including 19-8 on the offensive glass.

Mikyska led all scorers for the second-consecutive game, this afternoon with 22 points. The sophomore shot 10-of-17 from the floor and just missed a second-straight double-double with nine rebounds.

Julie Gallegos added 14 points and Duop had 11 for the Inferno, while Katelyn Bartlett pulled in a career-high 10 rebounds and Tessa Mersberger dished out a career-high nine assists in the victory. Both career marks were also game highs.

Chrisandra Freeman led the Blue Angels (0-2) with 19 points and nine rebounds.

Alverno continues its season-opening seven-game road swing on Thursday as it opens Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play at Edgewood College at 7 p.m.
