BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Sadie DiPierro scored 15 points, including three 3-pointers, as the University of New England kicked off the 2014-15 season with a 65-51 win over Wellesley College in the opening round of the Ramada Roundball Invitational at the Harold Alfond Forum on Saturday evening (Nov. 15).
The Nor'easters, who led 30-16 at the break, will face either Tufts University or Keene State College in the championship game at 6 p.m. tomorrow. Wellesley will play in the consolation game at 4 p.m.
DiPierro was 3 of 6 from beyond the arc and 6 of 11 overall to finish just a point shy of her career high. She also added three steals. Alanna Vose came off the bench to score 12 points and grab five rebounds. Kelly Coleman contributed nine points, while Meghan Gribbin had seven points and five assists. Lauren Hayden was credited with seven boards and four steals in the win.
For the Blue, Morgyne Weaver tallied a game-high 16 points on 7-for-12 shooting. She also garnered eight rebounds. Chelsi Scott scored nine points and led all players with nine caroms.
UNE shot a solid 42.2 percent (27 of 64) from the floor and was 6 of 16 (37.5 percent) from three-point land. The Nor'easters were also strong with the basketball, committing just nine turnovers.
