WINCHESTER, Va. – Shenandoah University Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Doug Zipp announced Wednesday that C.K. Calhoun has resigned her position as head women's basketball coach.

Calhoun, who led her squad to 22 wins and two appearances in the ODAC Tournament quarterfinals in her two seasons at the helm of the program, is leaving to become an assistant coach at the Division I level.

"I very much enjoyed my time at Shenandoah," Calhoun said of her first head coaching experience.

"This is a great opportunity for me and is a chance for me to advance my career.

"I am going to miss the people at SU, but most of all, I am going to miss my student-athletes.

"They are a great group of young women and I know they are going to be successful both on- and off-the-court in the future."

In addition to her two years as the Hornets head coach, Calhoun played and coached at Marymount (Va.) as well as serving as an assistant coach at both Frostburg Stateand Randolph-Macon.

Shenandoah is coming off of a 10-17 season that saw the Hornets fall 53-52 in the ODAC Tournament quarterfinals to top-seeded Eastern Mennonite.

The new coach will have seven players return that started at least eight games last season, including rising senior Holly Chittenden and rising junior Imani Heggins, who earned All-ODAC accolades in 2013 and 2014, respectively.

"C.K. was the first coach I hired at Shenandoah," Zipp, who came into SU in July 2012, said.

"The energy and enthusiasm that she showed in the interview process never changed. She worked tirelessly to improve her program and as an advocate for her student-athletes.

"C.K. has our program moving in a very positive direction with a great deal of momentum as we head into the future."

A search for a new coach will begin immediately.
