Marymount's Katelyn Fischer Named VaSID Player of the Year for Third Time

Winchester, Va. – Marymount University senior standout Katelyn Fischer added yet another accolade to her résumé after being named the Virginia State Sports Information Directors College Division Women's Basketball Player of the Year on Tuesday.  Fischer has also been named VaSID Player of the Year each of the past three seasons.

Named an All-American by Women's DIII News and the WBCA, Fischer was also awarded the Jostens Trophy which recognizes outstanding student-athletes in NCAA Division III basketball for excellence in the classroom, on the playing court and in the community. She was also named First Team All-Atlantic Region by D3Hoops.com and was tabbed First Team All-Capital Athletic Conference for the third consecutive year.

Fischer averaged 15.5 points, 6.6 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game while shooting 46.5 percent from the floor, 39.1% from three-point range and 83.2 percent from the free throw line.  She led the CAC in assists, was second in free throw shooting, third in three-point shooting and assist to turnover ratio, eighth in scoring and ninth in steals.

For her career, Fischer set the CAC record for career three-pointers made (204) and set Marymount records for career assists, three-pointers (204), three-point shooting (40.1%) and free throw shooting (82.5%).  She finished her career in third place overall at MU in scoring (1,664 points) and sixth in steals (263).

Fischer is a two-time CAC Player of the Year and has received numerous All-America accolades during her three years with the Blue and White.  In addition to her athletic accolades, Fischer was also named a First Team Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American for the second year in a row this season.

Joining Fischer on the VaSID First Team are Paxton Gwin (Roanoke), Nicole Mitchell and Tia Perry (Christopher Newport) and Taylor Huber (Randolph-Macon).  Second Team All-State honorees include Bianca Ygarza (Eastern Mennonite), Shannon Allen (Lynchburg), Katie Anderson (Randolph-Macon) and Ferrum teammates Shea Smith and Katy Kipps.  Ferrum head coach Bryan Harvey was named Coach of the Year while Bridgewater's Heather Cantrell was Rookie of the Year.
