Ithaca, N.Y.-Sophomore forward Vandell Andrade (Providence, RI) scored 10 points and hauled in a game-high 18 rebounds as the Rhode Island College women's basketball team saw their season come to an end in a 53-48 loss to Haverford in first round action of the 2014 NCAA Tournament played at Ithaca on Friday evening.

Senior forward Cara Paladino (Arlington, MA) contributed 13 points, while classmate guard Stephanie Prusko (Lincoln, RI) chipped in with 12 points, for the Anchorwomen (20-9).

Haverford (24-3) advances to the second round and will play the winner of tonight's Ithaca College (23-4) vs. The Sage Colleges (17-9) matchup tomorrow evening (7 p.m.).

 Senior guard Nina Voith (Philadelphia, PA) led the way for Haverford with 16 points and eight rebounds. Junior guard Jacqueline Pizzuto (Belle Mead, NJ) contributed 12 points, while junior center Shannon Smith (Bethlehem, PA) corralled 11 caroms.

 The Anchorwomen led, 8-2, at 11:19 after Andrade connected on a jump shot. The Fords responded with a 9-0 run, keyed by a three-pointer and a pair of free throws by senior guard Hope Rainey (Richmond, VA), to go up 11-8 with 8:13 left in the first half.

The lead went back and forth until the final moments of the first stanza when layups by sophomore guard Michelle Lagrotteria (Niantic, CT) and Prusko sent RIC into halftime up by three, 25-22.

 Five points from Paladino in the early part of the second staked the visitors to a five point, 32-27 advantage at 17:14. A Prusko trifecta gave RIC a seven point lead, 35-28, with 13 minutes left to play, but the Fords responded with a 21-6 run over the next 10 minutes to go up by eight, 49-41 with 1:14 left.

Prusko made a three to trim the deficit to five, but free throws from Voith and Pizzuto allowed Haverford to close out the game.

RIC shots 34 percent (20-for-59) from the field, 23 percent (3-for-13) from downtown and 71 percent (5-for-7) from the free throw line.

The Fords shot 30 percent (16-for-53) from the field, 20 percent (3-for-15) from the three-point line and 75 percent (18-for-24) from the charity stripe.

Haverford held a slight advantage in rebounding, 41-39. RIC turned the ball over 15 times, while the Fords coughed the rock up on 11 occasions.
