Rochester Rolls By Emory to Finish 5th in UAA Race

OCHESTER, N.Y. - Rochester's senior class got a rousing send-off in their final game together as the Yellowjackets posted an 84-72 women's basketball victory over Emory University at the Louis Alexander Palestra.

The win was the fourth in a row for Rochester (12-13 overall, 6-8 University Athletic Association) and it wrapped up fifth place in the league standings. Emory finished 16-9 overall, 5-9 UAA. The Eagles are sixth in the league table.

Senior Loren Wagner produced game highs of 23 points and 18 rebounds. She hit nine of 13 from the floor, five of seven at the line. Junior Ally Zywicki had 17 points and four assists. Sophomore Tylar Guerrieri scored a career-high 17 points with perfect shooting; she was 7-for-7 from the field, 3-3 from the line.

Among the other members of the senior class, Katie Weiner had nine points, eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Danielle McNabb scored five points, grabbed six rebounds, and blocked two shots. The fourth senior, Paige Aleski, has been injured all season. She started, collected the opening tip, then left the court to an ovation from the crowd.

Selena Castillo had a double-double for Emory with 20 points and 11 rebounds. She added three assists and four of Emory's 10 steals. Savannah Morgan scored 14 points, had four assists, and two steals.

Emory used a scrambling defense at both ends of the floor that produced 26 turnvovers by Rochester. The Eagles scored 24 points on the giveaways. When Rochester broke the press easily, it resulted in layups. The Yellowjackets shot 51% from the floor for the game (27 of 53). They hit 81% at the foul line (25 of 31).

The back-and-forth pace resulted in wide scoring swings. Emory went from four points down (14-10 Rochester) to four points up (20-16) nine minutes into the game. Zywicki's three-pointer put Rochester up, 26-23, before Emory ran off eight straight – with four different players scoring. Morgan's jumper gave the Eagles a 31-26 lead with 4:26 left.

A 14-3 Rochester spree put the Yellowjackets ahead, 40-34, at halftime. Guerrieri led the halftime scorers for Rochester with 11 points in eight minutes.

Wagner and Zywicki dominated the second half scoring as they combined for 30 points. Wagner had 19 points and 10 rebounds. Zywicki scored 11, including 6-of-6 at the foul line.

Castillo and Morgan scored eight points apiece after the break. Between them, they hit seven of 23 floor shots in the second 20 minutes.

Notes: Wagner finished her senior season with 314 rebounds (12.6 average). That's the third highest total in a season. She also finished with 820 points, 18th in career scoring. With 755 career rebounds, she finished seventh all-time… McNabb finished with 804 points, 21st in career scoring… Zywicki is 10th in career assists with 275 and fourth in three-point goals made with 109.
