Romero Scores 29 as Rams Roll Past St. Joe's

Farmingdale State - 73, St. Joseph's - 53


Patchogue, N.Y. - Junior guard Camille Romero (Queens, N.Y.) tied her career-high with 29 points as Farmingdale State earned a 73-53 win at St. Joseph's on Wednesday night. The Rams improved to 14-8 overall and 11-1 in the Skyline, while the Golden Eagles fell to 2-20, 2-10.

The Rams jumped out to a 9-0 lead and did not allow St. Joe's to score their first field goal of the game until the 14:10 mark. 

Farmingdale State led 17-12 and used an 8-3 run to extend the advantage to 25-15 with 5:04 left to play in the first half. The Rams took a 31-22 lead into the break as Romero led the way with 15 points.

Six straight Farmingdale State points to start the second half quickly increased the lead to 15. The Golden Eagles closed within 11, 45-34, but eight unanswered gave the Rams their leagest lead of the game at 53-34.

St. Joe's could only cut the deficit to 14 late in the game as the Rams earned the 20-point road victory.

Romero scored her game-high 29 on 10-of-18 shooting, including a perfect 9-for-9 from the free-throw line, while senior forward Lushanta Savadel (Bellport, N.Y.) tallied a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Senior forward Danielle Hamlin (Centereach, N.Y.) scored 20 points, had 11 boards and four assists for the Golden Eagles.

Farmingdale State next will travel to Old Westbury on Friday, February 21st at 6:00 p.m.
