Five Hornets Score in Double Figures as LC Women Defeat Randolph 70-61

LYNCHBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College women's basketball team used a balanced scoring effort Tuesday evening to post a 70-61 victory at Randolph College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game.

Junior forward Lauren Penley paced LC with 15 points, and also tied for the team high with eight rebounds. She hit 4-of-6 shots from the floor and was 7-8 from the free throw line. Chaney Forbush tallied 14 points and also collected eight rebounds, and Shannon Allan posted 14 points and added five rebounds and three assists. Sammi Goldsmith contributed 13 points and three assists and Katie Reeves had a solid night with 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

The Hornets trailed 28-27 at the break but scored the first nine points of the second half to go ahead 36-28. LC opened the lead to as many as 10 points, but Randolph cut the advantage to 60-56 with 2:42 on the game clock. A Penley lay-up and a pair of Forbush free throws gave LC another eight-point cushion, and a Reeves three-pointer with just over a minute remaining sealed the win.

Allie Drufell led Randolph (10-13/4-10 ODAC) with 14 points and nine rebounds before fouling out late. Abigail Bullins had 13 points and Emilee Dunton posted 12 points, five caroms and three assists.

The Hornets out-rebounded the WildCats 49-36 on the evening.

Lynchburg, assured a top-three seed and a first-round bye in the upcoming ODAC Tournament, improves to 15-9 overall and 12-3 in conference play. The Hornets travel to top-seeded Eastern Mennonite University Saturday at 2 p.m. in the final regular-season contest for both teams.
