Andrade Scores 23 in, 58-54, Loss to UMass Dartmouth

North Dartmouth, Mass.-Sophomore forward Vandell Andrade (Providence, RI) led the way with a game-high 23 points and 18 rebounds, but Rhode Island College lost a tight game, 58-54, to UMass Dartmouth in Little East Conference women's basketball action played at the Tripp Athletic Center on Tuesday evening.

 

Andrade put up another dominant performance for the first place Anchorwomen (16-8, 10-3 LEC), shooting 9-for-14 from the field to go along with six blocks, six steals and two assists. RIC can clinch the program's second outright Little East Conference Regular Season Championship, and the homecourt advantage throughout the upcoming LEC Tournament, with a win at home vs. Plymouth State on Saturday, Feb. 22 (1 p.m.).

 

Classmate forward Cara Paladino (Arlington, MA) chipped in with nine points, five boards and two steals, while freshman forward Christian McDuffy (Brockton, MA) contributed an eight-point effort.

 

UMD (15-9, 8-5 LEC) freshman forward Megan Ronaghan (North Attleboro, MA) led the way for the hosts with a double-double effort of her own with 16 points and 16 rebounds.

 

Freshman guard Ashley Brown (Fairhaven, MA) and senior forward Erika Bornemann (Canton, MA) each scored 12 points. Brown added four assists and five steals.

 

 RIC shot 38 percent (21-for-55) from the field, 33 percent (1-for-3) from three-point land and 73 percent (11-for-15) from the free throw line.

 

The hosts shot 33 percent (23-for-69) from the floor, 29 percent (5-for-17) from downtown and 88 percent (7-for-8)  from the charity stripe.

 

 RIC held a slight advantage in rebounding, 42-41.
