The Oglethorpe women's basketball team fell behind the visiting Hendrix Warriors 7-1 and 36-12 early Friday evening and could never get back in the game, losing 72-53 at Dorough Field House.
The Stormy Petrels got a couple of decent performances as sophomore forward Alana Bentley tallied 13 points and six rebounds. Meanwhile, sophomore guard Emily Buck came up with 11 points on 5-of-6 free-throw shooting and two steals. Sophomore forward Kendelle Culpepper also scored in double digits, pouring in 10 points on 3-of-5 shooting, 2-of-2 from three-point range, and 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. Senior guard Kyana Jenkins performed well on Senior Night, scoring seven points on 3-of-4 free-throw shooting, passing out two assists and swiping two steals.
None of it was enough, however, as the Petrels shot just 29 percent from the field to Hendrix's 40 percent. Additionally, the Petrels shot just 18 percent from beyond the three-point arc. They were outrebounded 42-35 and outassisted by a whopping 18-3.
After the Warriors built their 24-point lead midway through the first half, they scarcely relinquished it. The closes the Petrels got after that was 19 toward the end of the contest.
Hendrix improved to an overall .500 slate on the 2013-14 campaign at 11-11, 5-6 in SAA play, while Oglethorpe dropped to 4-18, 2-9 in SAA competition. The Petrels remain in a tie for seventh place in the league.
The Petrels will welcome in Rhodes for their final home game of the season Sunday afternoon. The game will tip-off at 1 p.m. from Dorough Field House.
