Buffalo State Sprints Past Brockport, 78-47

BUFFALO, NY— Staci McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) netted a game-high 17 points and Buffalo State (18-4/13-2) remained undefeated at home with a 78-47 victory over visiting Brockport (8-12/4-9) in a SUNYAC game tonight at the Sports Arena.

Olivia Luciani (Syracuse/E. Syracuse-Minoa) added 13 points for Buffalo State, while Bianca Smiley (Amherst/Sweet Home) and Ashley Wallace (Lockport/Starpoint) had 12 points and seven rebounds apiece.  Mary Cain (Niagara Falls/Niagara Catholic) posted a pair of career highs with nine points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

After an opening bucket by Brockport, the Bengals scored the next nine points and never trailed the rest of the way.  Buffalo State took a 36-21 lead into the intermission, and the Golden Eagles never threatened in the second half.

Buffalo State forced 20 Brockport turnovers, while committing just nine.  The Bengals outscored the Golden Eagles in the paint, 40-24, and shot 44-percent for the game.  Brockport shot just 34-percent from the field and was 2 of 13 from 3-point range.

Buffalo State wore pink uniforms as part of the WBCA Play 4 Kay initiative to support breast cancer research and awareness, named for former NC State coach Kay Yow.  Bengals assistant coach Max Payne purchased the uniforms for the team in memory of his late wife Janet who lost her battle with breast cancer in 2007.

Buffalo State will play its final regular season home game tomorrow against Geneseo at 2 p.m.
