LC Women's Basketball Rolls to 79-54 win over Va. Wesleyan

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College women's basketball team opened a large first-half lead Tuesday and cruised to a 79-54 victory over visiting Virginia Wesleyan College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest.

LC took a 23-12 edge in the first eight minutes, but an 11-0 Marlin run behind three three-pointers tied the score at 23 all. The Hornets quickly answered with a 10-0 run of their own and took a 43-29 lead into halftime. Lynchburg enjoyed a double-figure advantage the rest of the way.

Lynchburg shot 56 percent in the first half (18-32) and 45 percent for the game (32-71). Junior Shannon Allan posted a game-high 19 points and grabbed six rebounds, while sophomore Chaney Forbush garnered a double-double, scoring 12 points and snaring a game-best 10 boards. Ann Dorris distributed a season-high 10 assists and added nine points. Charmaine Hairston scored 16 points and Sammi Goldsmith had 11 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Brittany Glasco tallied 16 points and six rebounds for the Marlins (13-9/7-6 ODAC). Crystal Smother contributed 11 points and Alexis Platt had eight points, four rebounds and two steals.

The Hornets (14-8/11-2 ODAC) host Washington & Lee University Saturday at 2 p.m. for Senior Day. Dorris and Caleigh Patterson will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.
