Barone, Fraser Recognized By Skyline Conference

New York, N.Y. – For the second straight week, the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball program has had two players honored by the conference it was announced on Monday. Junior Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) has been named the league's Player of the Week for the fourth time this season and freshman Christina Barone (Staten Island, N.Y.) has earned her third Rookie of the Week honor.

 

Fraser continued her strong junior season in a three game stretch last week that saw the Dolphins go 2-1. Fraser posted a double-double in each of the three games for the Mount on her way to averaging 17.7 points and 15.7 rebounds per game. She also totaled three assists, two steals and 16 blocks for the Dolphins last week.

 

The 5-11 center opened the week with 24 points and 14 rebounds in a 66-56 loss at Purchase on Tuesday and followed that up with a 15 point, 13 rebound performance in a 76-56 win over USMMA-Kings Point on Thursday. Fraser went 6-for-14 from the floor and matched her career-high with eight blocks against the Mariners. She closed out the week with 14 points, 20 rebounds and five more blocks in a 70-57 league win over NYU-POLY on Saturday.

 

Barone, who shares this week Rookie of the Week award with Frankie Pearson of Sage, had a strong all-around week for the Dolphins. She averaged 7.0 points, 6.0 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game for the Dolphins in the two win week. She also totaled four steals and shot 87.5-percent (7-for-8) from the free-throw line.

 

Barone scored seven points to go along with seven assists and four rebounds on Tuesday at Purchase before putting together an eight point, three rebound and three assist performance on Thursday in a non-conference win over USMMA-Kings Point. Barone closed out the week on Saturday against NYU-POLY with six points, seven rebounds and eight assists as the Mount cruised past the Jays to move to 12-1 at home this season.

 

Following the 2-1 week, Mount Saint Vincent stands at 15-5 overall and at 7-3 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will close out non-conference play on Monday when they travel to St. Joseph's-Brooklyn. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
